EcceChina: success for the institutional workshop dedicated to European Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Guangzhou

Training, culture and distribution: a strategic event in Guangzhou to promote European Extra Virgin Olive Oil among professionals and operators of the future.

Spreading the knowledge of European Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Asian markets, highlighting its excellence, traceability and attention to the environment: this is the mission of EcceChina – European Olive Oil: Symbol of Mediterranean Culture to Satisfy Oriental Tastes, the three-year project promoted by Unaprol Consorzio Olivicolo Italiano and supported by the European Union through EU Regulation 1144/2014.

As part of the activities planned for the first year of the programme, on Monday 13 January 2025, an institutional workshop was held at the Guangzhou Vocational School of Tourism & Business, one of the most prestigious vocational schools in Guangdong province in the tourism and gastronomy sectors.

The event represented a key moment for the training and dissemination of the culture of European Extra Virgin Olive Oil, targeting students and teachers, protagonists of the gastronomic training of the future, and a selection of professional operators in the distribution sector, including category managers and buyers, central figures in the processes of purchasing and selling EVO Oil on the Chinese market.

During the workshop, divided into theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations, an expert lecturer explained the history and culture of European Extra Virgin Olive Oil, EU quality standards, modern milling techniques and PDO, PGI and BIO certifications. The in-depth study also included the sensory properties of EVO Oil and its uses in cooking, contributing to the training of a new generation of taste operators, aware of the value of European EVO Oil as an ingredient of excellence, ambassador of the Mediterranean diet and symbol of sustainability.

One of the most engaging moments of the workshop was the guided tasting, which allowed participants to appreciate the organoleptic and nutritional characteristics of European EVO Oils. In particular, the Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil PGI, chosen as an example of production excellence, was presented.

The workshop is part of a long-term promotional strategy aimed at strengthening the presence and identity of European Extra Virgin Olive Oil in China, involving both the main players in the distribution chain, such as buyers and category managers, and the world of professional training. This event confirmed the growing interest of Chinese operators in European Extra Virgin Olive Oil, particularly when certified for origin and quality, and helped to promote a product that represents a millenary agricultural culture, certified excellence and a sustainable model of agri-food production.
